Nepotism vs Qualification in Tricking

To make it in the industry as a "professional" Tricker is carried out in a highly nepotistic way. It shouldn't be though, it should be based on your resume.

Hi my name is David Milner and I write articles about sports corruption in Tricking after witnessing it & speaking out against it !

Battle event organizers have a choice between candidates that they would like to elect to be "special guests" at an event.

How does one choose who to give that job to?

Well ... are they good friends with the organizer?

If that's the case, then they are likely the ones to be promoted.

.... in a properly organized sport, it would be based on qualifications.

If you win a local contest, you should qualify for a regional spot. If you win a regional or provincial or state contest, you should qualify for a national spot.

If you are a national champion, you should qualify to battle other national champions to become a world champion.

This is logical, no?

.. but it's not how things work unfortunately.

Here in Canada we have the potential to impliment a system in this way, but due to corruption it's impossible.

People want things to stay fixed the way it is. Why bother to win a fair contest, when you can use the power of friendship?

I lost respect for the sport when it became more about who can be closer friends to who, in order to move up in the world & for women in the community, instead of being valued based on performance, it was again based on "closeness".

This is an issue that needs to be fixed.

If you run a Tricking Community, I'd recommend electing a well trained battler who intends to bring victory to their home town.

Those are the kinds of people who will fight their way to the top and thank you for helping them later on.

When people are social climbers, you can't expect loyalty.

Infact, if their goal is to befriend people who are more powerful politically, they'll likely want to convert their home town into a proxy organization on behalf of their friends. They'll start to exploit even their own country if it means a sense of safety and belonging amongst the "elite".

Only those who are loyal to their day 1s are the type of people who will protect and cherish their community, rather than sacrifice it for the money and the fame.

I've seen many trickers abandon their home town and end up joining a new team once or twice a year. Playing for 5 or so teams at once.

"Friends" with everyone, but loyal to nothing.

I'm the opposite.

I'd rather stay true.
I know how safe it is to diminish the sense of tension between athletes by being friendly.
But it's a battle - you're supposed to have an opposing side to defeat, within the parameters & rules of a battle.
It's not about "cooperating".
That takes away the entire point of a fight !

There can't be too much friendship and cooperation amongst battlers & judges.
There needs to be a respectful distance.

Otherwise the meaning gets lost.

What does it mean to be part of a "Team" if you and other "Teams" all train together all the time?

You have to train separately, have separate methods that you reserve to yourself. Train at different academies or clubs or locations.
& you have to stay loyal to that.

That division is healthy when it comes to sports and competitions. The tension adds to the fact that two people are truly fighting.

When I start up a random chess match online, I have absolutely no idea who I am going to play against and I have no clue how they're going to play.
The same isn't true when you fraternize with your competitors and overexpose your training.

The entire meaning of a battle gets lost when you know what your competitor is going to do & if the fight leaves the battle because it's so familiar to the audience and the opponents.

It's okay for amateur matches, but not for people who crave seeing the best of the best.

The same has to be true for events as a whole.

When I go to an event in another country, I expect the pioneers who built that community to be in attendance and to be the administrators of the competition. When we're dealing with McTricking, you're going to be marketed that an event will be one thing, but will be made up of administrators who aren't even from that location.

I want to be surprised with something different.

When it's a McTricking event, and every event gets labelled the "World Championships" and it's hosted 3 times a year, and other events are basically the same as that anyways because the judges and battlers are always the same - all the meaning gets lost & Tricking jumps the shark for me.

Tricking Competitions have turned into pit stop for people who go on an "underground" Tour.
Battle Event Organizers turned their communities into a proxy for a cartel, and then have been false marketing the situation.

You have a duty to represent the culture, legality & people of a nation when you host an event in your country.

People instinctively know this, which is exactly why all the stuff that is happening that we know is wrong gets swept under the rug and lied about.

Why would people lie about what's really going on in Tricking? Why would people lie about how competitions are administered and decisions get made?
People only lie about things they're doing that they know is wrong.

So when I look for a competition. I simply look at who presents to me with the most accuracy.
I don't care about flashy theatrics and marketing gimmicks.

Give me the Story of Tricking & make sure it's in alignment with the history !

Why do people sacrifice all that is right & true about events?
For the money & fame.

They may say it's culture, but it's bullshit.

A True Champion would never accept a falsely marketed event.
I only collect video of them as evidence.

McTricking is a scam.
